Thereremainoursensations, affections, andappetites, ofwhichwemayalsohaveaclearknowledge, ifwetakecaretocomprehendinthejudgmentsweformofthemonlythatwhichispreciselycontainedinourperceptionofthem, , however, greatdifficultyinobservingthis, atleastinrespectofsensations; becausewehaveall, withoutexception, fromouryouthjudgedthatallthethingsweperceivedbyoursenseshadanexistencebeyondourthought, andthattheywereentirelysimilartothesensations, thatis, perceptions, , forexample, wesawacertaincolour, wethoughtwesawsomethingoccupyingaplaceoutofus, andwhichwasentirelysimilartothatideaofcolourwewerethenconsciousof; andfromthehabitofjudginginthisway, weseemedtoseethissoclearlyanddistinctlythatweesteemedit (i.e., theexternalityofthecolour) certainandindubitable.
