Herealsocomesinthatgeneral "parallelismbetweentheorderofsuccessionofanimalsandplantsingeologicaltimes, andthegradationamongtheirlivingrepresentatives" fromlowtohighlyorganized,fromsimpleandgeneraltocomplexandspecializedforms; also "theparallelismbetweentheorderofsuccessionofanimalsingeologicaltimesandthechangestheirlivingrepresentativesundergoduringtheirembryologicalgrowth," , , whichconspiretoprovethattheancientandtherecentformsoflife "aresomehowintimatelyconnectedtogetherinonegrandsystem," ;norneedformerprematureendeavorsandfailuresutterlydisheartenhim.
